Using Our Classroom Site for Helpful Info

Please click on the Weekly Newsletter tab for more information regarding up coming events and classoom curriculum. For your convenience, I will be a uploading a copy of the weekly newsletter that goes home via communication folder every Friday. This contains important information such as weekly homework, assignment or project due dates, field trips, etc . If necessary, please make an appointment to see me regarding your child's academic achievement and/or behavioral standing inside and outside the classroom so that we may discuss issues and find resolutions on how to help your child succeed in third grade, Room 108.

Parents and guardians are welcome to observe my class, Monday thru Friday. The best time to observe instructional time is from 10:30-11:15 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please call the office to make an appointment and plan to arrive 5 minutes early to avoid classroom interruption.

Thank you for your kind consideration,
Mrs. Cohen

Technology integration inside the classroom

posted Nov 25, 2009 4:54 PM by Unknown user   [ updated Sep 14, 2011 8:18 PM by Miriam Cohen ]

One of my goals is to incorporate the use of technology in our classroom. Our classroom has a  Flip Video so future podcasting such as chapel, field trips, swimming activities, art class, music class, computer class, library visits, National Day of Prayer, etc. will be uploaded as activities occur. Please feel free to visit the website on a weekly basis for updates. For viewing, please click the Podcasts tab under the Navigation heading located at the left hand side of the Home Page. For this school year, however, our classroom needs a laptop to allow students to do research inside the classroom. If you  have an old laptop or your organization is able to donate a new one, please contact me for more details. We already have one desktop inside the classroom but portabIes will allow students to bring technology to their desks and provide ease in operation and sharing among group members. I also plan on using computer inside the classroom as an incentive for students who complete their tasks early as well as a center for scholastic fun and games. I believe that the incorporation of technology use in academics will enhance education, increase computer skills,as well as lower behavioral problems inside the classroom.
Thank you, Mrs. Cohen

Mad Dog Math-at home

posted Dec 18, 2008 11:20 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Oct 10, 2010 9:57 AM by Miriam Cohen ]

Mad Dog Math-at home is a Windows PC application that provides an at-home practice experience that is just like the classroom Mad Dog Math (MDM) drills.  I personally encourage all my parents to check out their 14-day FREE trial available at the Mad Dog Math website (www.maddogmath.com).

I came across this excellent program during my visit to the ACSI Teacher's Convention in November of 2008.  My son,  Reagan, is in the program and he takes addition, subtraction, and multiplication exercises everyday to keep him abreast. Both of my children, Jelly & Reagan, continue to score very high in math every year during SAT and I attribute that to their solid math facts foundation achieved through daily MDM drills. Reagan takes about 2-10 minutes of practice everyday, depending on his homework schedule. Daily exercises at home give him confidence and assurance that he will pass the paper and pencil routine given in the classroom.

For only $29.99 (including the new released challenge level programs such as  Mutt Math--a mixed screen of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and Kennel Trouble--where two processes are required to obtain the answer), you can have all members of your family on board on this non-expiring Mad Dog Math-at home program.  The program tracks down the grade level and each child's progress.  You can't beat the price!
